Celebrating 275 Years of Ministry!

Blue Christmas Service

Date: Thursday, December 20, 2018
Time: 7:00 PM -
Location: Church

Christmas is meant to be a joyous time for all Christians, as we celebrate the coming of Emmanuel, God with us. For some, however, it is a bittersweet time. We remember those who celebrated Christmas with us in the past, and are no longer in our lives to do so. We may know one or more of many kinds of grief. A loved one may have moved on from this life to eternal life in Christ. We may have suffered the loss of a relationship, whether to divorce, estrangement, or geographic separation. We may know the worry for a loved one who is far away and in danger.

Whatever the reason, Christmas is not always a time of unmitigated joy. This has been recognized, over the years, with an observance on or near the Longest Night of the year, which occurs at the winter solstice, December 21. Perhaps with a lingering memory of an old song, the observance has come to be called Blue Christmas.
The First Congregational Church of Boylston will hold a Blue Christmas service of prayer, song, and remembrance. If you have need to shed a Christmas tear, or just heave a Christmas sigh, in remembrance of someone or something lost, please plan to join us. Bring a friend who might be a support to you and others, or who might have needs of his/her own. Those who have attended these services in the past have found comfort and meaning in the simple time together, and in the simple acts of remembrance that we share.
If you have need of such a time, please plan to join us. If you know someone who might need it, invite them and consider offering a ride. It might be just the Christmas gift a friend or neighbor needs.
